Programs and Fundraising

BARRINGTON PTO CHAIR POSITIONS & COMMITTEES 

Listed below are descriptions of our current chair positions and committees. We hope this provides you with information as to what these committees do and the extent of involvement during the school year. Please contact the committee chair (list found on the Barrington PTO website) or a member of the Executive Board if you have questions. 

ADMINISTRATIVE 

Directory Chair is in charge of creating our school’s directory that contains student’s names, addresses, phone numbers as well as other school-related information. A great job for someone who is looking to help out from home! 

New Family Network Chair/Family Connections Program Chair welcomes new families, works to acquaint them with the Barrington family, policies, and procedures, and organizes the Ice Cream Social before the beginning of school. A committee may be organized for the Ice Cream Social. 

Website/Communications/Social Media Chairs are responsible for all communication with the members of the Barrington PTO. This includes updating the website, sending PTO-related emails and updating other social media. A person with web-design experience and computer skills would be beneficial. 

ENRICHMENT 

Spelling Bee Chair organizes the 1st-3rd grade spelling bee as well as the 4th-5th grade spelling bee in January. This chairperson is responsible for setting the dates along with the PTO Presidents and Principal, registering Barrington with Scripps in early fall, finding judges and pronouncer for each bee, and communicating with the custodial staff to ensure the gymnasium is set up for each competition. 

I Heart Science/Math Night Chair organizes either the science OR math night one time per year, alternating the focus each year. A committee is typically created and helps to plan the events of the PTO-sponsored, free event for families in mid-February. 

Barrington Book Chair organizes at least one school-wide Barrington Book each year. This chairperson surveys the teachers for a list of recommended books (and considers author visits that year), and creates a timeline to include Barrington Book promo week, book order placement, book reading by chapter for 3 weeks, and Barrington Book Family Night. Barrington Book usually takes place January-March and is completed before Spring Break. 

After School Enrichment (ASE) Committee is led by 1-2 chair people. The committee members and co-chairs contact instructors, set up courses, create the schedule, ASE brochure and organize registration online with the help of the Website chair. Committee members are needed to volunteer 3 times a year, August/September, December, and March. After-school classes that provide fun and enriching activities for Barrington students. ASE classes are offered in the fall, winter, and spring. March. 

FUNDRAISING 

Clown Around Committee and Co-Chairs work together to host a community- wide carnival for students and families held on a Friday in May. This fun-filled day includes games, food, silent auction and raffle. This is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser and a great opportunity to get involved. 

Election Day Bake Sale Co-Chairs organizes volunteers and arranges for the donation of an array of goodies to be sold at Barrington during local and national elections. 

School Supply Sale Co-Chairs work closely with the school supply vendor January – August to do an online sale. This supply sale provides parents and students with the opportunity to purchase their school supplies online in June for the following school year while supporting the PTO. 

Spirit Wear Chair helps the students at Barrington show their spirit by designing and ordering spirit wear for students at Barrington. A committee may be organized to help design and sell all the spirit wear for the school. 

Mini Fundraiser Chair works to secure mini fundraisers with local restaurants and stores monthly during the academic year.

Making Tracks for Bobcats Chair organizes the 1-mile fun walk that takes place each Fall to raise money and support additional learning experiences. The chair works with a committee to secure sponsors, music and prizes.

PROGRAMS 

5th Grade Promotion Co-Chairs plans the 5th-grade promotion festivities and organizes the luncheon, memory books and decorations. This is an opportunity to help out one last time before your child moves on to middle school. 

Lunchroom Chair organizes volunteers to help kindergarteners during the first few weeks of school during the lunch hour as they adjust to being in school for the entire day. Organizes parent volunteers throughout the year to volunteer during the lunch hour to assist students, as well as teachers and aids to transition lunch groups and help children properly dispose of lunch in the trash, recycling and food waste bins.

DEI works to support both district and school-level efforts in place to foster a culture in which differences are understood and students and community members feel welcomed.

SOCIAL/HOSPITALITY

Gardens and Grounds Chair organizes a committee of people to help to maintain the flowerbeds, pots and grounds at Barrington. The committee often plans and designs new garden areas on the school grounds. A great opportunity for all the green thumbs out there! 

Helping Hands Chair is in operation on an as-needed basis. In the event of a special circumstance affecting families and/or staff of our school, this chair will work with Barrington Administrators to coordinate meals or volunteers, provide financial assistance, etc

Room Parent Coordinator functions as a liaison between the PTO and Room parents. This chairperson finds 2-3 room parents per class and disseminates information from the PTO to the room parents to distribute to their classroom parents.

Room parents act as the liaison between the classroom teacher(s) and parents, as well as coordinate class holiday parties and other needed activities. Two volunteers are needed for each class. 

Staff Appreciation Week Co-Chairs put together a committee to pamper the teachers and staff members for an entire week. This group plans all-school activities during Teacher Appreciation Week in May. 

Yearbook Chair is responsible for the photographs and layout for the yearly publication. This is a great committee for those who love photography! 

Meals on Wheels Chair Coordinate and update volunteers and delivery of meals during school day lunch periods.
